Stream is WPP's invitation-only, free-form, camp-like, super-democratised, extreme (non-virtual) social networking, anti-conference.
It's taken a long time for business conferences to catch up with other forms of communication. Top-down is out. Participation is everything: improvisation, inspiration, innovation, inter-action. No formal agenda. Think Open Source, think Wikipedia.
This year we are holding Stream for the second time (see what happened last year at stream2007.wpp.com) to bring together more than two hundred of the brightest people - from the creative, media and technology industries around the world - to discuss and debate ideas and opportunities in the areas of culture, innovation and the internet.
Everyone who attends Stream must participate in some way. Lead a discussion session on a subject of their choosing. Demonstrate their performing talents at the Friday evening extravaganza. Help put together an art or gaming workshop. Volunteer with logistics. Big Boards in the bar area detail all the activities that are taking place, and this is where you write down any discussions or workshops you'd like to run so that other Stream participants know to come along. At several times a day everyone is invited to Stream-wide activities like the Gadgethon (show us your favourite gadget), Extravaganza (watch or perform yourself), Midnight Cooking Madness (cook your favourite meals from around the world), as well as lunch, dinner, and drinks each day. During the entire event X-Stream our own gaming arcade will be open for everyone to use.
For more information on specific activities have a look around on the wiki. Or come up with your own project that you'd like to run, and get others involved.
